SLP, Mexico.- A fire broke out this Wednesday between the first and second floors of the Flamingo parking lot of the Miami International Airportas reported media local.
The fire originated around 11:35 in the morning, as confirmed by Rogelio Vandamas, acting chief of the North District of the Miami-Dade Fire Department, who stated that four vehicles caught fire and were completely burned and another eight that were nearby they suffered damage.
The images shown by the media show large smoke coming from the garage where the fire broke out.
Authorities reported no injuries and added that all of the vehicles involved were gasoline-powered and none were electric.
Investigations are still continuing to determine the origin and cause of the fire, and crews are also inspecting whether there was any structural damage in the parking lot.
The Flamingo parking lot was temporarily closed, as was the Dolphin parking lot entrance, which reopened shortly after noon, according to airport spokesman Greg Chin.
The connecting train between the airport and the car rental center was paused for a short period of time and its service was later resumed.
This is not the only accident that has occurred at the Florida airfield. In 2022, a plane with 126 people on board, coming from the Dominican Republic, caught fire after its landing gear collapsed at Miami International Airport.
Three of the 126 people aboard the aircraft suffered minor injuries and were transported to hospitals.
According to the FlightAware websitethe plane in question left Punta Caucedo, in the Dominican Republic, and landed in Miami, 42 minutes late.
During landing, the aircraft left the runway and collided with several objects, before ending up on an unpaved area of the runway, the local channel reported. Telemundo 51.
Immediately after the fire started, about two dozen units from the Miami-Dade Fire Department responded to the scene. Firefighters immediately used white foam to extinguish the fire.
