DGII tax collection increases 11%

Recaudo impuestos DGII sube un 11%

In 2024, tax collection in the country increased 11% compared to 2023 and totaled RD$846 billion, which represents 73% of the resources that enter the State, reported Luis Valdez Veras, general director of Internal Taxes (DGII). ).

He said that the entity achieved collection compliance of 100.5%, even with the reformulated September 2024 budget.

Valdez Veras highlighted that the collection increases due to the boost of economic activity, whose growth is estimated at 5% thanks to the good business, political and social climate that the country is experiencing, and also to the growth of strategic sectors such as tourism, which received 11 million visitors in 2024.

He explained that one of the goals this year is to start the debt collaboration and conciliation project, which consists of achieving reconciliation with taxpayers and ensuring that the smallest number of processes reach the contentious division. Whether problems are the result of a determination, an inspection, an intimation, among others, they can be resolved in the tax administration and not in a judicial process. To achieve this they are working with the Guatemalan tax system.

Another project that will be ready in 2025 is the interconnection with the Real Estate Jurisdiction, which will be a great advance for the transfer of property. In 2024, the DGII launched a property release rule, a process equal to that carried out for motor vehicles. With this rule, a person who sold a property can make a discharge automatically, if the purchaser does not do so on time.

In another order, the entity is working on a review of all the procedures that the different local administrations have in order to standardize and simplify all the requirements and documentation necessary to carry out a process. Valdez indicated that they have already reviewed 50 processes in the facilitation and service area.

“This is so that when a citizen goes to a local administration the same thing that is required for an IPI certification in San Cristóbal is the same thing that is required in Hato Mayor that they are standardized and not that a collaborator goes overboard by asking for things that “They are not,” he said.

Valdez also explained that in 2024, taxpayers who took advantage of the simplified tax regime increased by 3,900 and totaled 24,000. The goal in 2025 is to eliminate obstacles to benefit from the regime, among which must be requested from the tax administration and wait for it to approve it.

Just as it has compliance parameters and is automatic or ex officio that the taxpayer can accept.

He highlighted that in the institutional strategic plan 2025-2028, one of the pillars is the simplification and standardization of procedures and processes.
