According to witnesses, Carlos Correa, director of the NGO Espacio Público and the portal Crónica Uno, was intercepted in the center of Caracas by alleged hooded officials.
The non-governmental organization Espacio Público reported the disappearance of Carlos Correa, human rights activist and director of the portal Chronicle One this Tuesday, January 7th.
«The whereabouts of our executive director Carlos Correa is unknown since 5:00 p.m. approximately, this January 7th. It has not been possible to establish communication. According to witnesses, he was intercepted in the center of Caracas by alleged hooded officials,” the NGO wrote on its account on the social network X.
Espacio Público made a direct call to the government of Nicolás Maduro to take immediate measures. “We demand that the State appear safe and sound,” said a brief statement.

Correa is a social communicator and also director of Espacio Público, an NGO dedicated since 2002 to documenting and monitoring cases of censorship, violation of the right to freedom of expression and access to official information in Venezuela. The human rights activist has participated annually in at least four international advocacy events, in addition to 30 hearings before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR). The university professor was also director of Radio Fe y Alegría and general coordinator of the NGO Provea.
Correa’s arrest sparked several reactions. «No one may be arbitrarily deprived of liberty and the authorities are obliged to provide timely information. to the family in the face of complaints like these. #WhereIsCarlosCorrea. We demand a statement from Mr. Prosecutor Tarek William Saab and the @Defensoria_Vzla,” Carlos Murillo from Provea wrote on social networks.
The Caracas section of the National College of Journalists (CNP) also made a call to know Correa’s whereabouts.

For its part, the Inter American Press Association (IAPA) asked the Venezuelan authorities to “guarantee their safety and cease the constant persecution and harassment of journalists.”
