According to data from the Federation of Colombian Insurers (Fasecolda)in 2023, 5,267 cases of fraud were reported in the purchase of Mandatory Traffic Accident Insurance (Soat)with losses amounting to $2,650 million. These figures represent an increase compared to 2022, when 4,742 cases worth $2.4 billion were recorded.
“These alarming figures lead us to redouble our efforts to guarantee the safety of our users. Buying Soat through unofficial channels exposes citizens to serious risks and legal fines“, said Juan Enrique Bustamante, president of Seguros Mundial.

Therefore, it is very important to mention that, when purchasing a new Soat or updating it, these recommendations must be taken into account to do so safely:
1. Acquire Soat only through official channels, authorized physical points and trusted platforms.
2. Do not share personal documents on social networks or messaging applications.
3. Avoid suspicious discounts that do not comply with legal regulations.
4. Do not make bank transfers to personal accounts or payments using unauthorized QR codes.

Soat
As of the third quarter of 2023, Of the 19.2 million vehicles registered in the Colombian vehicle fleet, 49% do not have current insurance.

This is equivalent to more than 9.3 million units, so just over 9.9 million have this policy, representing 51% of the country’s vehicle fleet, according to figures from the Single National Transit Registry (Runt).
