The “School is Ours” program was created and implemented in the government of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador with the purpose of improving the physical conditions of educational establishments in the country, but it only covers Basic Education centers. During the last six-year term, there was a cumulative investment of 85,000 million pesos and 99% coverage was achieved.
The general director of the La Escuela es Nuestra program, Pamela López Ruiz, explained that in 2025 it is planned to serve 74,100 public education schools at the basic and upper secondary levels.
“We have for this fiscal year of 2025, the budget assigned to the program is 25,000 million pesos, of which 19,900 million pesos will be allocated for 67,900 basic education schools, which represent 38% coverage of this level, including 50 % of secondary school coverage in the country. And 4,600 million pesos for 6,200 Higher Secondary Education schools, with which we will reach national coverage in 2025 of 50% of the total schools nationwide. We project total attention to 74,100 schools for this year.
The amounts delivered range from 200,000 to 1.5 million pesos, everything depends on the enrollment of students at the educational establishments.
“In basic education the ranges will range from 200,000, 250,000 and up to 600,000 pesos and in higher secondary education schools the amounts that will be delivered will range from 600,000.1 million and up to 1 million 500,000 pesos, taking into account that the enrollment of this educational level are higher and their needs are different,” he reported.
The resource can be used to improve facilities, equipment or food service.
“If there is sufficient budget in the rest of the six-year term, continuous attention is projected in six years of the special education multiple attention centers, the schools located in localities with justice plans. And in the case of initial, preschool and primary education, it is projected that they can receive the resource up to two times in the six-year period. In the case of Higher Secondary Education and secondary schools, up to three times in the six-year period,” he reported.
