The Avá-Guarani people of the Tekoha Guasu Guavirá Indigenous Land (TI), located between Guaíra and Terra Roxa, in western Paraná, suffered attacks again during the night of this Friday (3). The Federal Police confirmed the crime in a statement and stated that federal, state and municipal public security forces were on site to prevent further episodes of violence. “Around 9 pm, shots were fired towards the indigenous community located near the Eletrosul neighborhood,” he reported.

According to the statement, investigations to determine the authorship and criminal responsibility of those involved began on Friday and, on Saturday morning (4), federal criminal experts collected evidence at the scene.

During the attacks, the Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (Apib) published a request for urgent help in which it asked the authorities for appropriate measures and punishment of the criminals. The note also reported the messages sent by the Avá-Guarani leaders to the organization: “we are surrounded at the moment” “there are gunshots on all sides”, he described.

The Ministry of Indigenous Peoples (MPI) condemned the acts of violence which have occurred repeatedly in the region since the end of December 2024.

“MPI monitors the situation with indigenous people through its Department of Mediation and Conciliation of Indigenous Land Conflicts and is in dialogue with the Ministry of Justice and Public Security for the immediate investigation of armed groups operating in the region”, he informed.

According to complaints from the Indigenous Missionary Council (Cimi), since December 29, 2024, the place has been the target of violent actions that resulted in an indigenous man being shot in the arm, on the 31st, and another indigenous woman being burned in the neck, on the 30th. .

Reinforcement

According to the MPI, an increase in National Force personnel in the conflict region was requested, based on ordinance 812/2024, which had already authorized the presence of agents in the region. According to Apib, the attacks demonstrate that the number of personnel present is not sufficient. “Even with the presence of the National Force in the Region, the attacks continue!”, reinforces the request for help.

The report from Brazil Agency questioned the Ministry of Justice and Public Security about the reinforcement of the National Force on site and is awaiting positioning
