The assassination of Ibero Gutiérrez González
The parents of Ibero Gutiérrez lived on Calle Hernani Nº 1541, in Punta Gorda.
“On Sunday, the 27th of 1972, he had lunch at my house, with the family. Then Olga, his wife, went to a classmate’s house to study. In my car I took Íbero to his apartment. It was approximately 3 in the afternoon. I left him on the corner, a short distance from his house, with his arm raised, waving at me. That is the last image I have of him,” said Íbero’s father.
His partner Olga recounts the last tragic moments: “We agreed to meet at half past ten or eleven at night. He was going to pick me up at a classmate’s house, where I was studying. He did not come and that surprised us, because Íbero was punctual. So around midnight we were really nervous, because he didn’t show up. With some relatives I went to our apartment and everything was in order there. Iberian was not. Early on Monday morning, I went with Íbero’s father to the Headquarters. They said they didn’t know anything about him. We continued to investigate until around 7 pm, with no result. It was when they informed us that his body had been found.”
On Monday, February 28, the Joint Forces Press Office issued its communiqué No. 43, at 10:00 p.m. The report read: “On the date of the date, being approximately 12:00 p.m., as a result of an anonymous tip, members of the Joint Forces found under a tree, located about fifteen meters from the intersection of Camino de las Tropas and Camino Melilla, the lifeless body of a male person with several gunshot wounds.”
His body was in the supine position and he was wearing a beige shirt, blue jeans and brown loafers. She was 22 years old. According to all indications, he was not killed in the place where the body appeared, but rather he was taken there already dead.
In total there were 13 bullets, all 38 caliber, fired by at least three revolvers that ended the life of Íbero, as established in the expert reports. Weapons of that caliber are the ones used by the Police.
The Prosecutor’s opinion determined that Íbero was “intercepted in the street by members of the Tupamaros Hunting Command, was taken to an unknown place, where he was tied to a chair with a rope across his chest and, after questioning him (possibly about the whereabouts of Nelson Bardesio ), was cruelly beaten with blunt objects and kicked in the thorax and abdomen, which caused various fractures of the ribs, maxilla, and arms.”
The Squad left a sign around Íbero’s neck that read: “You also apologized. Bullet for bullet. Death for death. Tupamaros Hunting Command”.
