The physical and mental health of the young political prisoner Yunaiky Linares is of concern

HAVANA, Cuba. – The family of the 11J political prisoner Yunaiky de la Caridad Linares Rodríguez is concerned about the physical and mental health of the 27-year-old girl, who is serving an eight-year sentence of deprivation of liberty in the Mujeres de Occidente prison, known like El Guatao.

“After self-harm [en noviembre pasado] “They started medicating her with gabapentin, but I’m worried that she suffers from thyroid and has not been medicated for it,” said to CubaNet Yurka Rodríguez Garcíamother of the political prisoner. “She is dazed, thin and with shiny eyes. I don’t see it the same [que antes]; “They are killing our children,” he added.

On November 12, Yunaiky Linares crossed the fence of the correctional work camp where he was serving his minimum severity sanction, to look for the director of the El Guatao penitentiary center, which is located right next door. The reason: the location in a new bus where there was a common prey with which he had already had problems.

As a consequence, the 9/11 protester was returned to the maximum security regime and sent to a punishment cell where she remained for a week.

In that dungeon he harmed himself by cutting his arms. In addition, he stood for three days without eating or drinking water, according to what his mother told this medium.

“The last day she was in the cell was when they brought her medical assistance and my daughter said no, it was no longer necessary. At this time a doctor from Mazorra [Hospital Psiquiátrico de La Habana] “They are medicating her with gabapentin, because they say that my daughter is sick with nerves,” said the interviewee.

“They have her drugged with that pill in a place where we know there are so many enemies, commanded by them. “I blame State Security for everything that happens to my daughter,” he added.

Regarding the common prey with which the young woman “had problems,” her mother commented: “Why do they put them together? Because it is ordered by State Security? My fear is that my daughter will get complicated by another cause, because she is strong and is not going to let herself be provoked by anyone,” he said.

Yunaiky de la Caridad Linares García was convicted of the alleged crime of sedition, due to her participation in the anti-government protests of July 11 and 12, 2021on the corner of Toyo, Havana.

First, the Prosecutor’s Office requested a sanction of 17 years in prison against him, which was reduced to 14 years and, after the family filed an appeal, it was reduced to eight.
