Tapachula, Chis., Two caravans advancing along the coast of Chiapas joined together in the municipality of Pijijiapan to continue their journey towards the center and north of Mexico yesterday afternoon. The contingent that left Tapachula on December 12 had been waiting for a week in the coastal town for attention from the National Migration Institute (INM), but the authority did not agree to grant them the transit permits they demanded.
The INM offered to take them to Tuxtla Gutiérrez, and only half agreed to travel to the capital in Urvan-type vehicles.
The rest of the members of the caravan – about 600 – joined the second group of 1,200 people, who arrived on Christmas Day after walking for a week from the border with Guatemala.

From October to date, more than 13 thousand migrants have left the southern border in nine caravans; They pointed out that in Tapachula, the main city in the region, there are no jobs and the regularization offices are saturated. In addition, they want to reach the United States before January 20, when Donald Trump will assume the Presidency, for fear of his anti-immigration policies.
