Maduro says he will mobilize his followers for investiture

The ruler of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, said this Thursday (12/26/2024) that there will be “impressive” mobilizations during almost the entire week of the presidential inauguration, scheduled for next January 10, when he assures that he will go to Parliament to be sworn in. as head of state, after his controversial re-election proclaimed by the electoral body last July.

In a program broadcast by the state channel VTV, the president announced that “the people take to the streets to take the oath” between January 8 and 12, mainly on the 10th, when “they are considering filling 10 avenues” in Caracas.

These mobilizations, he explained, are part of a set of activities by “all popular forces” for “the celebration of peace and joy” that will take place until February 4, when they will commemorate 33 years of the failed coup d’état. of 1992 against the Government of Carlos Andrés Pérez (1974-1993) headed by the then Lieutenant Colonel Hugo Chávez.

On December 18, Maduro had already expressed that, together with “millions of men and women who will be in the streets,” he will be sworn in as reelected president in a climate of “peace and tranquility.”

The Chavista leader was proclaimed by the National Electoral Council (CNE) as the winner of the July 28 elections based on results that are still unknown in a breakdown, despite the fact that the approved schedule for this process established its publication.

Meanwhile, the largest opposition coalition – the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) – claims the victory of its candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia, according to 83.5% of the minutes that it claims to have gathered through witnesses and table members, documents that the Government considered false.

The opponent, asylum in Spain, has insisted that on January 10 he will be back in Caracas to take office as head of state.
