The mayor of Lobitos, Ricardo Bancayán, indicated that they are outraged and concerned due to the situation after the oil spill. In that sense, he said that, despite what was mentioned by the general manager of Petroperú, Óscar Vera, the cleanliness of the beaches does not reach 100%.
In conversation with Exitosa, Bancayán indicates that the cleanup does not compensate for the damage committed against marine fauna and ecosystems that are underwater. The mayor asks that it be taken into account, since total cleaning was not completed.
“Although it is true Petroperú has taken contingency measures regarding beach cleaning, it is not 100%. Because we still find our beaches that have already been damaged. So collect all the oil, the land, the water, the rocks where an entire marine system has been harmed. That is what must be taken into account. There is no 100% cleaning completion“, held.
According to Mayor Lobitos, there are still people working to clean the shores, despite the fact that the general manager of Petroperú stated that “the beach is clean and the water is completely crystal clear.”
“Until now they are still working, if they are still working today that means that it is not 100%, because the general manager of Petroperú said that information two days ago, therefore, it leaves the context that we live here seeing our problems.”he added.
Subsequently, he commented that many of the jobs and sectors in which the citizens of Lobitos are dedicated are based on fishing and tourism, which were affected by the oil spill.
“We as Lobiteño people have three areas of work: fishing, tourism and oil. We do not have any work in oil companies, even though we are the second largest oil and gas producer that provides wealth to all of Peru. However, we are not served in the best way“, held.
