Original plans included continuing to Cartagena and returning to Ecuador on December 28, but everything changed when Vásquez left the hotel to meet a woman he allegedly met through a dating app. According to family members, that same day he shared images on social networks accompanied by people unknown to them.
As night fell, the man did not return to the hotel. Instead, transactions with his bank cards were reported for an amount greater than $2,000, which led his relatives to report the case to the authorities and activate their search.
After more than 48 hours of uncertainty, the most feared news arrived. Javier Vásquez was found dead in a hotel in the center of Medellín. The circumstances of his death are still under investigation, but there is speculation that he may have been drugged and robbed.
The authorities continue to collect evidence to clarify what happened, while the family of the deceased asks for justice and faces a painful process in the midst of their mourning.
