The minimum wage in Colombia for the year 2025 It has been established at 1,423,500 pesos per month, which represents an increase of 9.53% compared to the previous year. This increase, which generated a great debate with conflicting positions, will begin to be applied from January 1 of next year. When including transportation assistance, which is 200,000 pesos, the monthly total amounts to 1,623,500 pesos. How much will you have to pay as a health contribution?

In the last hours, President Gustavo Petro made the announcement about the increase in the Minimum Wage. In his message he highlighted that the adjustment that is being carried out in the country is so that workers can recover the lost purchasing power, in a context of rising inflation.

The formula was established as follows:

– Minimum base salary: 1,423,500 pesos

– Transportation assistance:
200,000 pesos

– Monthly total:
1,623,500 pesos

– Total increase:
123,500 pesos

For its part, it was also indicated that the health contribution should be 12.5% ​​of the salary. This amount must be paid by both parties as follows: 8.5% is paid by the employer and 4% is paid by the worker.

Other contributions:

In addition to the health contribution, employers must also make contributions to the pension system, which is 12% of the salary, adding other parafiscal contributions such as those destined to the Family Compensation Funds (CCF), the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare ( ICBF), and the National Learning Service (Sena) which total an additional 9%.

What were the reasons for the increase in Petro?

From the official website of the Presidency of Colombia they established the reasons why the Head of State made the decision to increase the minimum wage by 9.5% by 2025 “like a Christmas present”:

– Inflation in 2024 will be around 5%. Currently, with the end of November, it is at 5.2%.

– Food inflation would remain at 2.7% annually at the end of the year, “it is the largest drop in the entire OECD,” he said.

– The inflation expectation for 2025 is 3%, which means that “The real, not nominal, salary will increase by 6.5%. “It is a growth in the standard of living of all the people who link their income to the minimum wage, which is now coming for the third time.”
