Penal Forum confirms release of all adolescents detained after 28J

Alfredo Romero

The director of the NGO Foro Penal, Alfredo Romero, confirmed that all the adolescents detained in the post-election context were released, while recalling that “more than 1,800” adults still remain imprisoned.

The NGO Foro Penal reported on the night of this Tuesday, December 24, that all the adolescents detained in the context of the post-election protests on July 28 were released. At least 162 teenagers were arrested after the presidential elections.

Alfredo Romero, president director of the organization, offered the information through a video published on his X account, an announcement that came after the Prosecutor’s Office declared that 956 people detained after the presidential elections were released after a “judicial review” process.

However, the NGO warned that “more than 1,800” adults are still imprisoned, most of them detained during the demonstrations against the questioned re-election of Nicolás Maduro.

“This is the Christmas that registers the largest number of political prisoners,” said Romero, who recalled that the human rights panorama in Venezuela continues to be alarming; and also addressed a few words to the relatives of all Venezuelan political prisoners.

Penal Forum: 100 releases in December

Finally, Romero explained that, during the month of December, the Penal Forum was able to verify more than 100 releases.

Since last November 16, political prisoners have been released, the most recent this Monday, December 23 and Tuesday, December 24.

Despite the recent releases, a kind of revolving door has been operating, where there are more and more complaints from activists, politicians and detained or missing people; among them, three leaders from the Bolívar state, linked to Vente Venezuela (VV) and Voluntad Popular; the mayor of Cabimas, Nabil Maalouf; and the leader of VV in Chacao Luis Palocz.
