Petroperú and Piura authorities met after oil spill

Petroperu announced that it will hold meetings with all parties after the oil spill on ‘Las Capullanas’ beach, in Piurawhich has affected the ecosystem and caused the death of marine animals.

Jhan Paiva, representative of the oil company, assured that the company has met with fishermen and authorities of the Piura region to respond to the environmental disaster.

“Petroperú has met with all the parties involved in this event, both supervisory authorities, the population, and fishermen’s unions. We have answered their queries, we have listened to their proposals and needs,” he said in RPP.

Likewise, he assured that that meeting is the beginning of “dialogue tables to be able to deal with all this problem.”

“The next meeting will probably be on the 27th of this month. On a daily basis we are receiving requests for meetings, attention, or information,” he indicated.

When asked about the statements of the general manager of Óscar Vera, who assured that the cleaning had finished and the sea water was crystal clear, Pavia said that the process to recover the contaminated space includes cleaning as one of the stages.

“We have around three or four beaches affected (…). What are cleaning activities have practically concluded. However, it is not that we have already withdrawn. Right now there is a Petroperú contingent on Capullana beach. What continues according to the plan are remediation works and identify any other point that refers to cleaning,” he stated.
