Assembly appointed its candidates to the Constitutional Court

Salim Zaidan heads the list. Pachakutik maintained the candidacy of the jurist Luis Sarango. The assembly members of Correísmo left the session.

With the absence of the correístas assembly members grouped in the National Union for Hope (Unes) bloc, who left the session room, the Assembly Nacional appointed Salim Zaidán, Alejandra Cárdenas Reyes and Luis Sarango Macas as candidates for the renewal of a third of the judges of the Constitutional court.

The name of Luis Sarango Macas was kept on the list, candidate of Pachakutik, and who was part of the first shortlist that was not accepted by the Qualifying Commission.

The secretary of the Qualification Commission, Rafel Oyarte, said to leave out the first shortlist It was due to the fact that the Legislative Branch did not meet all the requirements for its qualification. He stated that on the first occasion they only sent an email announcing the designation, but did not provide the full documentation.

Now it remains for the Executive and Transparency and Social Control functions to present their candidates, since the candidatures presented did not meet the requirements -according to the Commission-, and, therefore, the contest was declared void.

It is expected that once the shortlist of the three functions of the State, the qualification process begins to carry out the contest of merits and opposition to elect the three judges who must replace an equal number of magistrates who are currently judges of the Constitutional court. The partial renewal of the constitutional control body must be completed until February of next year. (RR)
