The opposition bloc made up of four political leaders heading towards the 2025 general elections, will elect its candidate for the Presidency through the survey modality, reported businessman and National Unity (UN) candidate Samuel Doria Medina.
“We have come to the conclusion that the best path is a survey, a survey, two surveys, in short, but it is the most appropriate path that It can surely be done in the month of March (2025), in the most transparent and supervised manner.”The politician said yesterday in an interview with the Influyentes program on EL DEBER Radio.
The decision to determine who will be the candidate of the bloc that faces the ruling party in the August 2025 elections was resolved in a meeting that took place this weekend, added Doria Medina.
In addition to Samuel, the bloc “for a united Bolivian opposition”, which was consolidated last week, It is made up of former presidents Carlos Mesa, Jorge Tuto Quiroga and the governor of Santa Cruz, Luis Fernando Camacho.
“We are committed to making unity a reality that guarantees a single opposition candidacy in the presidential elections, that includes all democratic forces and leaderships without any type of exclusion,” says part of the document that seals the alliance in which the signatories also commit to “give up personal political aspirations in favor of the greater good.”
In this scenario, in the last meeting of the bloc it was also decided to invite different personalities from the political field who are in an early pre-election campaign.
“We have invited Vicente Cuéllar, Rodrigo Paz and Amparo Ballivián. They have been asked to consider joining the unit and we hope to have a response. in the coming days, so that in the first days of next year, the unit will be strengthened with other members,” explained Doria Medina.
The usual ones?
The alliance of the four most visible leaders of the opposition mainly bothered the Government of Luis Arce, even other opposition actors who criticized them for being “traditional” and showing no renewal in their ranks.
Even the former citizen and businessman from Santa Cruz, Branko Marinkovic, described them as a “group of failures”, of the “old politics” and that “real change” is needed in Bolivia.
In response, Doria Medina stated that both he and Governor Camacho – who is the youngest of the three – did not become president.
“There are Carlos Mesa and Tuto Quiroga who have been presidents, but neither Luis Fernando nor I have been presidents, and neither have the others who have been invited. That criticism doesn’t make much sense, Luis Fernando Camacho, who is 43, 44 years old, I think it shows an important renewal from Santa Cruz, and I come from the business sector”said Doria Medina.
Campaign in action
Even before the opposition pact was made public, Tuto and Samuel each carried out an intense campaign.
While Doria Medina in different cities of the country, He presented his proposal with a package of solutions, especially to face the economic crisis, Quiroga signed a pact with the Left Revolutionary Front (FRI) – a party that in the Assembly still has an agreement with the Citizen Community – and ‘Libre’ was consolidated, which also has the support of the Democrats.
“I aspire to be the candidate of the unit and the president of the unit, but I have signed a document and I have word that we will see who has the most support from the population and if it is anotherit will be supported,” concluded Doria Medina.
Postulation of Andronicus: “nothing is defined”
For the first time, Evo’s pupil leaves open the possibility of being a candidate for the Presidency, everything depends on his bases.
The president of the Senate and leader of the six federations of the Cochabamba tropics, Andrónico Rodríguez Ledezma, He said that there is nothing defined about his possible candidacy for the Presidency, and that it will be defined in a congress in an organic manner.
“That is an issue that will be resolved appropriately in the coming months. So far, nothing is defined (about his application) “This topic (will be discussed) in extended sessions and meetings in the coming months,” Rodríguez stated and added that the coca growing bases organically defined that Evo Morales will be their candidate.
It was the first time that the Cochabambino politician opened the possibility that he could be a potential candidate for the Presidencyafter months in which it has gained support from those who believe it is the renewing alternative of the MAS.
The idea of Andrónico running for president is not indifferent to many MAS legislators who support Arce and to the MAS members who do not identify with any of them, as is the case of Senator Félix Ajpi.
