Just over a third of Brazilians intend to travel in the summer and inject R$148.3 billion into the economy, revealed a survey released by the Ministry of Tourism. According to the Summer 2025 Tourism Trends – Behavior of the Brazilian Population survey, 59 million people (35% of the country’s population) plan to travel for leisure from December 2024 to February 2025.
The contribution of domestic tourism to the economy was calculated based on average spending, which will rise this year. According to the survey, each Brazilian tourist intends to spend, on average, R$2,514 this summer, an increase of 34% compared to the previous summer, when the average was R$1,877.
Carried out in partnership with Nexus Pesquisa e Análise de Dados, the survey showed that 97% of Brazilian travelers chose a national destination. The beach remains the main attraction of the season, cited by 54% of those interviewed. In second place are destinations linked to nature and ecotourism (10%), followed by adventure and health/well-being attractions, both categories with 5% each.
“Average spending by travelers grew 34%, from R$1,800 to R$2,500. The expectation of economic movement is extraordinary, of more than R$148 billion that tourism will generate in our economy. Sun and beach are Brazilians’ favorites, but of course everyone is interested in discovering the gastronomy and tourist attractions throughout Brazil”, declared the Minister of Tourism, Celso Sabino, in a video released by the ministry.
The average trip duration is 12 days this season. According to the research, factors such as natural beauty, low prices and the possibility of meeting relatives and friends stood out among the main reasons when choosing a tourist destination.
Nexus carried out 5,542 home interviews in the 27 Federation Units with citizens aged 16 and over. The margin of error in the total sample is two percentage points, with a 95% confidence interval. Carried out at the request of the Communications Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, the survey was carried out from October 14th to 28th.
In November, the Ministry of Tourism announced that Brazil will have 184 thousand flights during the summer, an increase of 17.8 thousand (+10.7%) compared to last season. The number of seats will rise to 29.8 million, an increase of 3.2 million (+12%) year over year. The initiative is part of the Meet Brazil Voando program, a partnership between the ministry and the main Brazilian airlines to expand access to tourism and meet demand during vacations.
