Brugada is committed to strengthening the Light Rail; thanks Budget 2025

On the eve of Christmas, Brugada gave the start of three rehabilitated light trains.

He stated that these trains increase the number of units from 18 to 21, which will shorten the waiting time for users, from five to four minutes.

He said that in 2025 new trains will be acquired and others that are already out of service due to various circumstances will be rehabilitated.

The objective, he stressed, is to increase transportation capacity in the next two years.

“The good news that we also give today is that next year 2025, we are going to invest more, that is, we will buy more trains for the light rail, we are going to expand the light rail terminal and we are going to see everything necessary so that this mode of transportation is used to the maximum,” he explained.

The head of government announced that the construction of the Cablebús from Milpa Alta to Xochimilco will begin in 2026, so it is necessary that before it is completed, she said, the Light Train increases its passenger transport capacity.

He recalled that in 2026 Mexico City will host the FIFA World Cup and the Azteca Stadium will be the place where thousands of fans will come, so the Light Rail could be a viable transportation option.

“We are going very strong next year so that the population that needs to be transported on the (light) train and the World Cup is coming, they are going to have it very close here, so we are going to adapt what is necessary,” he noted.

At the same event, the head of the Electric Transportation Service, Martín López, explained that the three rehabilitated trains will allow the number of users transported per day to go from 25,000 to 113,000.

The Secretary of Mobility, Héctor Ulises García Nieto, said that the recovered trains are named: Lucas, Lorenzo and María, in homage to the native peoples of San Lucas Xochimanca, San Lorenzo Atemoaya and Santa María Nativitas.

Brugada thanks budget

The head of Government took advantage of the launch of the three rehabilitated Light Rail units to thank the Congress of Mexico City for the approval of the 2025 Economic Package, which allocates unprecedented budget increases, among them to the Mobility category.

Brugada Molina highlighted that the 2025 expenditure budget allocates resources to the rehabilitation of the Metro, the Light Train and will begin with the construction of the Cablebús in Tlalpan, Álvaro Obregón and Magdalena Contreras, works that will have a direct impact on millions of public transport users. .

“80% of the inhabitants of this city move by public transportation, so we have to increase public resources, contributing and making Mexico City grow economically, so everywhere we see the investment of public resources in mobility is fundamental” he highlighted.

The 2025 Expenditure Budget allocates 1,899.4 million pesos to the Electric Transportation Service (STE) of Mexico City, intended for the operation and maintenance of the means of transportation it manages, including the Light Rail.
