After 14 years, midfielder Oscar is back in São Paulo. Tricolor announced this Tuesday (24), Christmas Eve, the signing of the 33-year-old player, who was revealed at the club and who spent the last eight seasons at Shanghai Port, in China.
Oscar’s last season was precisely the one with the best numbers in Chinese football: 16 goals and 29 assists in 39 games, that is, an average participation of at least one goal per match. With Shanghai Port, he was national champion three times (2018, 2023 and 2024) and also won a Chinese Super Cup in 2019.
“Oscar is a player who needs no comments. He has a technical quality that is difficult to find on the market. I was personally committed to this negotiation, as I had been talking to him for more than six months about this possibility. We will work to have a 2025 with great results “, stated the president of São Paulo, Julio Casares, on the club’s website.
Before playing in Asia, Oscar played for Internacional (2010 to 2012) and Chelsea, from England (2012 to 2017). With Colorado, he was twice champion of Rio Grande do Sul (2011 and 2012) and won the Recopa Sul-Americana in 2011. At the English club, he won the Europa League (2012/2013), the English League Cup (2014/205) and was twice champion national (2014/2015 and 2016/2017).
For the Brazilian national team, the midfielder was present in 48 games, with 12 goals and 15 assists. Wearing Amarelinha, he was part of the winning team of the 2013 Confederations Cup, in Brazil. The following year, he was part of the team that competed in the World Cup, also on Brazilian soil, finding the net twice.
Oscar’s departure from São Paulo to play for Inter was tumultuous. In 2009, a year after debuting in the Tricolor main team, the midfielder took the club to court alleging problems signing his first professional contract, at the age of 16. The player only played a few times on the field for the São Paulo team: 14 games, no goals and two assists. Despite this, he was part of the Brazilian champion squad in 2008.
“I’m happy to return to Brazil and be able to play for São Paulo, which is the club where I started, made my base and revealed myself. I’m happy with this possibility of returning, my family too. I’m grateful for the love I received on social media in the last few days, and I will do my best to achieve great things together”, commented Oscar, on the Tricolor page.
