The Minister of Transport and Communications, Raul Perez Reyesassured that the inauguration of the Chinchero International Airportin Cusco, will take place at the end of 2026 or beginning of 2027.
“The idea is that Chinchero is in operation, that all the infrastructure is ready by the end of 2026 and we can, if possible, have the terminal already in operation by 2026 or at the beginning of 2027,” he indicated in an interview with Andina.
In this sense, he announced that a competition will be called for the construction of the landing strip and the control tower. “The terminal is still in charge of the construction company, so I think we are making good progress,” he added.
The Chinchero International Airport will be located in the province of Urubamba, at 3,712 meters above sea level and will be positioned as the second largest airport in Peru.

“This is an emblematic work that will allow the size of the airport to be expanded by almost double its current size,” he indicated.
Likewise, he noted that 17,000 workers work daily in the new terminal, which “also generates indirect employment.”
Along these lines, Pérez Reyes highlighted that the new airport will allow more people to enter the air terminal and there will be more flights. “More services will be demanded and all of this will generate a virtuous circle where the airport grows, airport activity grows, direct employment grows and indirect employment increases,” he said.
