Puerto Plata.-The Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, visited the municipality of Montellano, in Puerto Plata, this Monday to coordinate support actions and immediate response to the communities affected by the heavy rains and floods that have significantly impacted the region in recent days.
The official reported that, on instructions from President Luis Abinader, emergency brigades have been deployed to the most affected areas to provide direct assistance to families. He announced the displacement of the president tomorrow to monitor the situation.
Paliza indicated that the Economic Kitchens and the Presidency’s Social Plan have been mobilized to guarantee food and logistical assistance. Likewise, he highlighted that the Government will provide support to the Mayor’s Offices in the costs of hiring equipment to mitigate the damage and in the cleaning of drains and drains.
“In the last 4 days, the meteorological event has generated accumulations of 264 milliliters of water, and more than 500 in the last 22 days. This could worsen in the next 48 hours, which is why the Emergency Operations Center (COE) is evaluating declaring Puerto Plata on red alert,” the minister stated.
He assured that the Government is committed to the well-being of citizens and will act quickly to mitigate the effects of this situation and will provide continuous monitoring through operations.
“You can be sure that no effort will be spared to ensure that all Montellano families are out of danger and to restore normality as soon as possible,” Paliza said.
Emergency brigades have addressed more urgent needs such as the supply of food, drinking water, and temporary shelter; as well as evaluating material damage and access conditions in the affected areas.
