Former Spanish president, Felipe González, asks to facilitate the return of Edmundo González to Venezuela

Edmundo González has reiterated that on January 10 he will be in Venezuela to take office.

The former Spanish president, Felipe González, called this Monday on the Government of Pedro Sánchez to facilitate the return of the opponent, Edmundo Gonzálezto Venezuela. This in the midst of uncertainty over an eventual return to be sworn in as president.

“If I had to make the decisions, I would take him on a plane, like we brought him (…). I would take him on a plane and I am willing to accompany you“were the words of the former head of state, who governed the European nation between 1982 and 1996. In his speech he also described the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, as a “tyrant.”

Maduro “has become an arbitrary tyrant without democratic legitimacy,” and “although it may seem incredible, tyrannies are not eternal, but ask Al Assad,” González added, alluding to Bashar al Assad, the Syrian president who He was recently ousted from office.

“Let Spain say: Edmundo González is the elected president of Venezuela and is at your disposal to offer him the necessary means to make his offer to agree on a transition effective after recognizing the results” of the July 28 elections. These elections continue to be the center of controversy, since a good part of the international community does not recognize Maduro for another period in the Miraflores Palace.

On September 8, Edmundo González arrived in the Spanish capital, after having taken refuge in the Spanish Embassy in Caracas. In recent days, it was learned that the European country granted asylum to González, following the request he made once he arrived in that territory.
