The construction of another 21 blocks of curb and asphalt on city streets is one of the main works that the local Municipality plans for 2025 in the remainder of its administration, in addition to the announced semi-Olympic pool in the Sports Plaza .
The Annual Operational Plan (POA) 2025 was approved unanimously in the last session of the municipality. “It is the last one that will be done in our administration, practically closing the period,” Mayor Agustín Callero told EL ECO.
A cordon was made in the Artigas neighborhood, between Varela and Chile and Uruguay and Ibicuy streets. A total of nine blocks. Now “we decided to continue with the cordon from Chile to the United States and from Murguía to Ibicuy, which is 21 blocks in total, to leave the neighborhood finished,” by also including “new bitumen.”
The work would be carried out with “resources from the OPP (Office of Planning and Budget of the Republic) shared with the Municipality, because we have a total of 11,800,000, combining literals B, C and D. That would be enough for about 16 more blocks or less. We are going to try to get the Municipality to reach 21,” he explained.
It also indicates that “another three blocks of cordon are projected along Río Negro Street between Argentina and Eloy García, which would be done with a balance that we have left from the POA 2024.” At the same time, “there were three blocks left at the end of Uruguay Street, one linear and two transversal, which would now be done with an extension of the work.”
If everything planned comes to fruition, by the end of the current government period, “about 50 blocks of cordon Account” could be built.
“We said it in the campaign, one of the priorities was precisely the cordon, because we understood that it urbanizes, it changes the life of the neighborhood. People are infected: they fix the facade of their house, make the sidewalk, allow more illuminated streets, better visibility in traffic as they are wider, and drains are improved. It changes the neighborhood in some way,” the mayor emphasizes.
Remember that among the blocks that were made cordon counts, those of Rodó and transversal ones are also counted, about 8 or 10 blocks in total.
Furthermore, “we managed to create public spaces through Architecture, with the Municipality’s own funds, such as improving the Lobo square, we made the OSE square, signage for the neighborhoods and a lot of other things.”
The Pool
The project of the announced public semi-Olympic open pool on the premises of the Plaza de Deportes is pending, which will be done with money from the Interior Development Fund (FDI) of the national government, and that through the municipality of Colonia, It will be allocated to the local Municipality for infrastructure works.
“The project has already gone to the Court of Auditors, it returned to Cologne, it was entered, that is, the company has already been awarded, so I think that, if it does not start in these days, it will be after the construction license.”
Once started, “the work will take four or five months,” he estimated.
“We apologize to neighbors”
Callero referred to the work that is being carried out on Felipe Fontana Street between Queguay and Víboras and in some transversal streets, as well as in Bravo and near the port. There the asphalt layer was removed and filled with new material for reconstruction. The work is taking longer than expected due to the lack of bituminous product, which is causing discomfort among some neighbors.
“We have a bad connection with Felipe Fontana Street. We have a problem: they are not delivering the material, bitumen, and it is most likely that they will grab us the construction license” without the asphalt layer. “We apologize to the neighbors because we understand” what the dust implies. “We are going to water twice a day and close at least Felipe Fontana, which is the street where the cars pick up the most speed when they pass by. We will free up the intersections so that the neighbors can move around there.”
Summer
During the summer season “the jobs on the beach are very dynamic, we have to be doing something every day and even more so if the shrimp come.” In terms of other services, “the bathrooms in the municipal inns must be open to the public,” plus the “chemical bathrooms” installed by the municipality itself.
For the comfort of the people, they put barbecue grills and benches on the Corbacho and Higueritas beaches. In addition, “we are repairing the steakhouses in Brisas, in Corbacho and in Escudero, with metal firewalls, as we did in Punta Gorda, so that they do not break.”
