The Foreign Minister of Colombia, Luis Gilberto Murillo, pointed out that his position is based on the fact that the scrutiny records that prove the supposed victory of Nicolás Maduro in the last presidential elections on July 28 were never shown.
The Foreign Minister of Colombia, Luis Gilberto Murillo, indicated this Sunday, December 22, that the president, Gustavo Petro, should not attend the swearing-in of Nicolás Maduro before the National Assembly, on January 10.
Murillo pointed out that his position is based on the fact that the scrutiny records that prove Maduro’s supposed victory in the last presidential elections on July 28 were never shown. “The president is invited and that will be a decision that he will make and communicate in due time. I maintain that, if there are no minutes, there is no recognition. If there is no recognition, there should be no assistance to that act of possession.”

In this sense, he stressed that if Petro asks him he will give him his recommendations, “he has not asked me, it is a decision that he will make and I would not want to interfere in his decision. But you have heard my approach: if there were no minutes, there is no recognition, because there should be no assistance. What I am saying is that I have not been invited, so I do not have to make that decision.”
Despite this, the Colombian foreign minister maintains that Venezuela and the sister nation should not break relations because that would harm millions of people from both countries who live on the shared border.
After the presidential elections on July 28, the Colombian government has maintained its position that it will not recognize Maduro as re-elected if the evidence of the victory announced by the National Electoral Council (CNE) is not published. The opposition published 83.5% of the voting records obtained by its witnesses to show that the winner was Edmundo González Urrutia with 67% of the vote.
