Brazilian João Fonseca won, this Sunday (22) in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), the title of the Next Gen ATP Finals, a competition that since 2017 has brought together the eight best tennis players aged up to 20 on the world circuit. The Brazilian athlete achieved the feat by defeating North American Learnen Tien by 3 sets to 1 (2/4, 4/3, 4/0 and 4/2).

“I was very nervous before the game. I knew it would be very difficult […]. I played in a final against Learner in juniors [no US Open de 2023] and I know the way he can play. He’s a really nice guy and a great player, so I knew it would be tough, mentally and physically. But I managed to pass”, declared João after the decision.
“It’s incredible how I’ve improved physically and mentally. I’ve been very strong mentally, winning matches against Top 50, Top 20 players. I’m proud of myself, but of course I want more. My dream is to become number 1. Of course, now after winning Next Gen, I want to enjoy this week, relax and celebrate with my family. I want to enjoy the moment and I am very satisfied and grateful for this year”, declared the Brazilian, who started the season outside the Top 700 of the ATP rankings, but ends 2024 in 145th position.
