The north coast has the largest number of unsuitable beaches, 13: Rio Itamambuca, Itaguá 1, Itaguá 2 and Lázaro, in the municipality of Ubatuba; Centro and Indaiá, in Caraguatatuba; Prainha, Cigarras, Arrastão, Pontal da Cruz, Porto Grande and Preta do Norte, in São Sebastião; and Itaquanduba, in Ilhabela.

Baixada Santista has five beaches unsuitable for swimming: Perequê, in Guarujá; Aviation, Vila Mirim and Maracanã, in Praia Grande, and Vera Cruz, in Mongaguá. No beach on the south coast is classified as unsuitable.

The next measurement of Cetesb’s quality map is scheduled for the 26th.

The classification is based on the amounts of bacteria present in seawater such as thermotolerant coliforms (formerly known as fecal coliforms), Escherichia coli and enterococci.
