Navy searches for two people missing after boat capsize.
The Colombian Navy carries out search work after the shipwreck of the “Jye” boatwhich set sail last Thursday, December 19, from the port of San Lorenzo, Ecuador, bound for Guapi, Cauca. According to information provided by the community and relatives of the crew members, the boat did not reach its destination, generating an alert from the authorities.
Since the situation became known, the Naval Institution activated the corresponding protocols. A Quick Reaction Unit (URR) of the Tumaco Coast Guard Station began search patterns in the general area of Gorgona Island, where the shipwreck is presumed to have occurred. In parallel, the Port Captaincy of Guapi issued a notice to sailors to collect any information that would facilitate the location of the crew and the vessel.

During the operations, one of the crew was found alive on a beach in the Bazán sector. The man, rescued by the local community, was transferred to a hospital in the municipality of Guapi, Cauca, where he receives medical attention. The Navy sent a ship and another Coast Guard unit to reinforce the search efforts in the Gorgonilla and Bazán sectors.
Operations continue while the Colombian Navy calls on the maritime community to comply with safety regulations. It is recommended to register the vessels, carry the required documentation, such as the sailing authorization issued by the maritime authority, and adopt the necessary measures to guarantee safe navigation in the Colombian Pacific.
