Two days before Christmas, long lines of citizens fill the streets of Lima and other cities in Peru. Several Peruvian families woke up early to pick up the traditional turkey for Christmas Eve dinner at different points of sale.
Queues of up to five blocks could be observed at the Guadalupano stadium in Los Olivos, in the case of San Miguel, a location of a turkey distribution company registered lines from 4 in the morning, despite the fact that service began at 8 a.m.
“We know it’s complicated, but it’s part of the tradition. It’s worth it to share with family“said a buyer for Expreso.
It is worth mentioning that the increase in demand generated an increase in turkey prices, especially in Trujillo, where the cost per kilo reached 24 soles. Depending on the weight, a turkey can cost up to 360 soles.
Some buyers also reported problems redeeming their vouchers, since in some cases, they had to pay the difference due to the weight limitations of the birds.
In addition, on Angélica Gamarra Avenue the queues exceeded eight blocks and people paid an additional five soles for the dam cutting service.
Despite the wait, many customers expressed that this experience is part of the celebration.
“These dates are always like this, but it is nice to see how we are all looking for the same thing: to have a good time with the family.“said a buyer.
It should be noted that the PNP and fair organizers urged consumers to verify the authenticity of the vouchers, and also to be vigilant to avoid being victims of scams. The paviferias movement will continue until December 24, as several families will be looking to complete the last details of their dinners.
