The president Luis Arce revealed that the complaints against the former president Evo Morales by abuse of minors, “It was an open secret” and “everyone” was aware of these facts and that the investigations began in the government of Jeanine Áñez “but they died out.” Nevertheless, He assured that his government will no longer cover up these events.

Arce’s statements were part of a interview with the newspaper La Jornada de México:

“The accusations of statutory rape against Morales come from a long time ago, “Why did you keep quiet?” the Mexican outlet asks Luis Arce, and he responds:

“One will know why he kept silent, because It was an open secret. We all knew it, but it stayed there. The one who explored this issue was also the government of the coup d’état (2019) and at any moment it could leave (…) At the time, Jeanine Áñez’s former Minister of Justice did an investigation on this issue and the information was there.”. “They (the right) had been denouncing it several times for many years, but the issues faded and faded (…) furthermore, it is purely an issue for the judicial body, it is not a political issue.”

“Why wasn’t something done about it?”La Jornada immediately questions and Arce says he does not know the reasons, but that in his government, these events will not remain unresolved.

“Who knows in Evo’s government. But In our government we are not going to allow those types of ethical and moral aspects that damagenot only to a Political Instrument like ours, but to society,” Arce stated.
