The accident occurred after a large block of granite, which was being transported by the trailer, came loose and collided with a travel bus, which was traveling in the opposite direction. After the impact of the rock, the bus caught fire. A passenger car collided with the trailer and its three occupants were seriously injured.

The investigation points to excess weight in transport and there is an indication of possible criminal liability for the driver. The driver is still at large. Security forces are also looking for the man in Espírito Santo and Bahia and are asking him to come forward.

According to the Civil Police, his driver’s license is suspended. There was a Prohibition raid, a few years ago, in the city of Mantena, Minas Gerais, and he refused to take a breathalyzer test.

Authorities are still working with expertise at the scene of the accident, given the magnitude of the destruction of the vehicles.
