CMD rejects pressure from SNS to sign pact

CMD rechaza presión de SNS para firma pacto

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Medical College (CMD) describes the decision of the director of the National Health Service (SNS), Mario Lamaof supposedly forcing that union to assume the agreement already socialized with the Government, before the end of this year.

Waldo Ariel Suero, president of the guildconsiders that the paid publications in different media that were made on the 15 agreed points, in which the set date are underlined, are an unhealthy maneuver, so they will not sign them compulsorily.

“The paid space on the agreement published by the Government It is a precipitation of Mario Lama. And, even more so with that last paragraph, which indicates that the Medical College You have a chance until December 31 to sign the agreement […] Mario Lama, that is blackmail of yours. You are not going to blackmail the Medical Association by ordering it to sign an obligatory agreement. That is not true,” Suero said during a press conference.

After clarifying the seriousness of the President Luis Abinader and the other authorities in the health sector, in contrast to the director of the SNS, the union member specified that he will not accept this imposition because there are also pending points to be clarified, such as the thousands of doctors who could be left out of the salary increase planned for 2025.

Dr. Suero explained that the base salary of doctors who are in the National Health Service is 69,600 pesos. In fact, he indicated that it is only to this group that Mario Lama wants to apply the 10% salary increase and leave out the more than 2,000 doctors who earn 74,900 pesos.

“He (Mario Lama) wants to level out the salary increase with the smallest, with those who earn the least. Why don’t you do it with those who earn more. Let them take all those who earn 69,000 to 74,000, from there the 10% applies. But, no, they don’t want to like that,” said Suero.

It states that “this claim” violates the Constitution of the Republic, Law 41-08 of Public Function and Law 123-15 that creates the SNS, specifically in its article 16, when it denies the 10% increase allocated to those doctors. from the former Dominican Social Security Institute (IDSS) and other doctors from self-managed hospitals who earn 74,900 pesos.

The CMD called on President Abinader to intervene in this situation and to dialogue “because I believe that the best way to resolve this is to continue with the dialogue,” he said.

Lama answers

Dr. Lama clarified that more than 16,000 doctors will receive the salary increase in January if the agreement between the government and the Dominican Medical College is signed.

However, this must be on the indicated date for the increase to be effective from January 1, 2025.

The official also reported that the 500 doctors who are above the base salary will also receive an increase until they level out the salary established in the SNS.

Likewise, doctors will later receive the full increase of 10% in July 2025 and 5% in January 2026.

“More than 16,000 doctors will receive the salary increase in January if the signing occurs. About 500 doctors are slightly above the base salary,” Lama published on his social network X (Twitter).
