Hurtado, who has been in preventive detention for 18 months since last October, said that if his legal situation changes, he will abide by the provisions issued by the justice system so as not to hinder the investigations.
“My daughter Luciana needs her father’s work because for two months I have not contributed anything, I am the only one who is responsible for that girl because mom only takes care of Lucianita (…) the decision you make, I am completely governed by it, as It was from day one that I handed in my passport, so that I could have that appearance and be able to work in my country,” he briefly stated.
Lawyer change
At the beginning of the proceedings, Hurtado announced that his defense will be assumed by lawyer Russell Robles, instead of Elio Riera. Robles was in charge of supporting the request for a variation of preventive detention due to house arrest.
He stated before Judge Checkley that his client has not opposed any action taken by the Prosecutor’s Office and that, on the contrary, he has collaborated with the investigations.

Prosecutor Luis Zapata, for his part, opposed the request and confirmed that the person under investigation does not have roots that would guarantee his permanence in the country. Checkley indicated that he will issue his decision within the legal deadline.
Elio Riera, meanwhile, clarified to Peru21 that Robles will be in charge of seeing this request, but that he will continue to lead the processes for the Migration and money laundering cases.
