The Regional Government of Piura and the Provincial Municipality of Huancabamba categorically rejected any link with the mining company Río Blanco Copper SA and reaffirmed their defense of agriculture, water and environment.
Through statements, they criticized and denied a video released by the mining company, where they claim that it provided support for the opening of a road.
“The lies told in the video created by the mining company Río Blanco Copper SA refer to a work being carried out on the Lanche – Naranjo trail, district of San Miguel El Faique, which is not GORE Piura, but is a work exclusively municipal…the GORE has not had any type of relationship with the Río Blanco SA mining company and now due to this lack of respect, we reaffirm that we will not have any type of dialogue,” the statement reads.

They warned that “if these happen again, we will be forced to take legal action.”
In turn, the commune of Huancabamba, also in a statement, rejected claims about an alleged alliance with the Zijin Río Blanco Copper company. “Since 2023, we have invested more than one million soles in the improvement of the Lanche-Cruz de Piedra-Naranjo alternate road, guaranteeing transitability for our province. We reiterate that there is no link with this company, and we reaffirm our commitment to defending the rights of our peasant communities and protecting the environment.”
Meanwhile, the mining company explained that the agreement signed on August 9, 2024 with the Roundtable for Dialogue, Concertation and Management for the Development of San Miguel de El Faique establishes the contribution of fuel for the machinery intended for the construction of the road. .
He stressed that this agreement “does not mean an authorization in favor of carrying out the mining project.”
