Many of the Creoles let go of the suitcases and packages they are dragging, to enjoy the contagious merengue, also receiving the traditional shots of Creole drinks, offered by personnel from the liquor houses.

All flights from the United States, Puerto Rico, Europe, Central and South America and the Caribbean arrive full of passengers, who come loaded with merchandise and gifts for their family and friends in the country.

Dominicans take advantage of the facilities granted by the government through the General Directorate of Customs, allowing them to pass items up to 5,000 thousand dollars, completely tax-free.

Due to the considerable displacement of absent Dominicans, all the forecasts of the airport authorities and Aerodom, that some 500 thousand travelers would travel through the Las Américas Airport in the month of December for Christmas, will be broken.

Many national and foreign airlines have had to add more flights to their schedules in order to meet the demand for seats from users, especially Dominicans.

Celebration

The Dominican Republic is currently enjoying a double celebration, the arrival of thousands of Dominicans absent for Christmas and the signing of an Open Sky agreement with the United States.

The statement was made by the director of the Airport Department, Víctor Pichardo, who said that after the signing of the agreement, the Dominican Republic continues to be the nation that has the most bilateral air agreements with different nations.

“We are happy and happy, because we are going to have our airline, Arajet, flying to destinations like New York, Miami and Puerto Rico, respectively, thanks to that Open Sky agreement signed with the United States,” said Pichardo.

He indicated that this Open Sky agreement signed between the Dominican Republic and the United States could only be achieved through the clear and precise vision of a statesman of the conditions of President Luis Abinader.

Pichardo maintained that this agreement comes into effect precisely at a time when the country is celebrating the Day of the Dominican Abroad, which supports the nation’s economy.

The passengers, mostly Dominicans, come to spend Christmas in the country.

The director of the Airport Department has remained, together with the director of the Specialized Airport Security Corps and Aerodom executives, welcoming the absent Dominicans.

Both Pichardo, General Enmanuel Suffront and the Aerodom executives distribute flags among Dominicans, honoring the national symbols.

Security

General Suffront Tamayo assured that passengers who are arriving in the country from various points abroad have the necessary security both inside the terminal, outside and when traveling along the highway.

“We have enough agents spread throughout all areas of the Las Américas Airport, to guarantee the movement of the thousands of Dominicans and foreigners who come to spend Christmas with their family and friends in the country,” he said.

He said that both the Armed Forces and the National Police have members and units deployed on Route 66 Avenue, Las Américas Highway and other points, to guarantee that travelers reach their destinations without setbacks.
