Santo Domingo. – The Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) expressed its worry and rejection to the sentence TC/0788/24 of the Constitutional Court (TC), which establishes that in an electoral process it may be presented independent candidacies of a national, provincial and municipal nature that arise through civic or social groups of citizens.
In a statement, the secretary general of the political organization, Johnny Pujolsnoted that the high court’s decision poses serious risks to the stability of the political system.

The purple leader assured that the ruling of the Constitutional Court facilitates the inequality in the electoral competition, the infiltration for organized crime, division and transfuguismas well as the logistical chaos and administrative.
According to Pujols, these points are also shared by other political and social organizations, with which they have already “advanced.” meetings to address the issue.”
“From the Dominican Liberation Party we reiterate our highest concern about the ruling TC/0788/24, as well as the will to build together with the actors of the party system a prudent solution that protects the party system and Dominican democracy” , he expressed.
In this sense, he highlighted that it is crucial take action that allow establishing clear rules, limits and parameters for these candidatures.
“This sentence could become a deadly attack against the party system and the political, social and democratic stability of the country,” he argued.
The ruling of the Constitutional Court issued last Monday also allows civic or social groups to propose independent candidacies without the need for prior registration, as long as they declare it before the Central Electoral Board (JCE) at least 75 days before the elections.
