The Emergency Early Warning Messaging System (SISMATE) seeks to alert citizens about a threat of natural disasters, such as earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides, intense rains or the activation of volcanoes. They clarify that it was not created to warn about tremors or earthquakes.
For his part, Hernando Tavera, executive president of the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP), told Andina that “Sismate is an information system; It is not a warning system. That’s the important thing to consider.”.
