Confirmed deaths in Minas highway accident reach 38

The number of deaths in the collision between a bus and a trailer, on BR-116, in Minas Gerais, in the early hours of Saturday (21), reached 38, according to the Fire Department. The accident occurred around 3 am in the city of Teófilo Otoni.Confirmed deaths in Minas highway accident reach 38

According to firefighters, 37 bodies have already been sent to the Legal Medical Institute (IML). A 38th victim died in hospital.

According to preliminary information from the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the accident occurred after a large block of granite, which was being transported by the trailer, came loose and collided with a travel bus, which was traveling in the opposite direction.

After the impact of the rock, according to the PRF, the bus caught fire. A car also collided with the trailer and its three occupants were seriously injured.

The PRF believes that the death toll could be higher, as the fire makes it difficult to locate victims in the wreckage.
