HOLY SUNDAY. – The General Directorate of Penitentiary and Correctional Services (DGSPC) reported that it requested an investigation from the Attorney of the Court of Appeal of Puerto Plata, in relation to the video that has gone viral where a Penitentiary Surveillance and Treatment (VTP) agent is observed mistreating to a prisoner who is imprisoned at the San Felipe Correctional and Rehabilitation Center in Puerto Plata.
The information was released by Colonel Roberto Hernández Basilio, head of the DGSPC, who immediately suspended the VTP agent involved in the incident.
In addition, the Internal Affairs Directorate of the DGSPC was empowered to initiate the investigations required in this type of case.
He maintained that, “since the Court of Appeal, in the person of Judge Ysidro Fabian, completes the investigation, as established by law, the corresponding sanctions will be applied to those who incurred this offense, which I classify as serious.” he pointed out.
Hernández Basilio was emphatic in pointing out that the entity he directs does not tolerate this type of abuse, since the agents who work under his direction must act in accordance with what is established by Law 113-21, on the treatment of those deprived of liberty. , which obliges them to protect the life and integrity of the person in conflict with the criminal law.
In this sense, the official indicated that, once the investigation is completed by the corresponding body, the sanctions established in article 13, paragraph 3 of the aforementioned law will be applied to the agents, which calls for transferring or suspending employees and officials of the correctional service who commit serious offenses like you are.
