The National Meteorology and Hydrology Service (Senamhi) predicts heavy rains and thunderstorms that will extend until the December 25, which will affect the departments of La Paz, CochabambaSanta Cruz, Beni and Pando.
The Senamhi anticipates moderate to heavy rainfall between December 22 and 23with cumulative estimates of 60 to 90 millimeters. In addition, on December 24, rain is expected in Santa Cruz, so it’s best to plan your Christmas Eve dinner and activities indoors.
The rains will affect the following regions
Pando: It will rain in the provinces of Madre de Dios, Nicolás Suárez, Manuripi, F. Román and Abuna.
Holy Cross: Andrés Ibáñez, Warnes, Ichilo, Sara, Santistevan, Chiquitos, Guarayos, Ñuflo de Chávez, Velasco, Busch, Sandoval, Caballero, northern Florida and eastern Cordillera.
Beni: Marbán, Cercado, Moxos, Yacuma, Ballivián, Iténez, Mamoré and Vaca Díez.
Cochabamba: Chapare, Tiraque, J. Carrasco, north of Ayopaya, Quillacollo, Cercado and east of Campero.
LaPaz: A. Iturralde, Franz Tamayo, Sud Yungas, Nor Yungas, Caranavi, northern Inquisivi, Murillo and Larecaja.
Alert for risk of river overflows
Senamhi also warned about the possible overflowing of rivers in eight of the country’s nine departments. This alert, which will be in effect until December 27, includes Tarija, Chuquisaca, Potosí, Cochabamba, Santa Cruz, Beni, Pando and La Paz, leaving Oruro as the only department outside the forecast.
