Mirex and DGA sign agreement to boost exports

The Ministry of Foreign Relations (Mirex) and the General Directorate of Customs (DGA) signed an inter-institutional collaboration agreement to strengthen the work of diplomatic and consular missions in the management of export opportunities, and expand the work of the country’s commercial representation abroad.

The agreement, signed by the chancellor Roberto Alvarez and the general director of Customs, Eduardo Sanz Lovatón, also establishes that both institutions will join forces to continue promoting the Dominican Republic as the main logistics hub of the Caribbean and Central America, integrating maritime, air and land transportation to facilitate global trade.

“One of the most relevant aspects of this agreement is the strengthening of the exchange of information between our institutions, allowing the Mirex have up-to-date and accurate data on international trade“said Minister Álvarez.

He added that this will be key for diplomatic missions abroad, which will be able to carry out their work more effectively, by having access to information, in real time with just one click, that helps promote exports and imports, to consolidate ourselves as a logistics hub in the region and attract new investments.

For his part, the Director General of Customs expressed that this agreement will be transcendental to promote, through diplomatic representations, Dominican trade, and how the country has become, under the management led by President Luis Abinader, a world class logistics huband an example to follow for other customs offices in the world.

“When we inaugurated our administration, we were 18% of the State’s income, today we are 25% of this, and we have increased the findings in all illicit. This agreement adds to initiatives such as Exporta +, which already has 109 registered companies,” said Sanz Lovatón.

  • Through this agreement, according to the press release, the Mirex and the DGA will work on automating the process of requesting cross-border crossings into Haiti, eliminating the need for applicants to travel to the DGA.

Also, the commitment of the Chancellery in channeling international professional training and training to Customs personnel, in areas such as: foreign trade, control, inspection, security and customs modernization, among others.

In addition, it will serve to optimize the current processes of the Single Window of Foreign Trade (VUCE) to simplify procedures, streamline procedures and significantly reduce response times in different requests.

The signing of this agreement was possible thanks to the joint work between the Vice Ministry for Economic Affairs and International Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mirex) and the General Directorate of Customs (DGA), whose representatives were present during the protocol act.
