It emerged this Friday that the Government of Spain officially granted asylum to former presidential candidate Edmundo González Urrutia.
This was announced by the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, after meeting with the former candidate of the Venezuelan extreme right, who left Venezuela after the elections of last July 28.
“It has already been granted and you will be notified in the coming days,” the Spanish chancellor told the media.
González Urrutia, who arrived in Spain on September 8, requested asylum in that country after signing a document in which recognizes the ruling of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) that validates the triumph of President Nicolás Maduro in the presidential elections.
The announcement by Spain to grant him asylum calls into question González Urrutia’s presumed and media intentions of returning to the country to be sworn in as supposed president.
