The Public Ministry determined that Franyelin Carol Ortiz, 25 years old, and Neiquel Daniel Gutiérrez, 30 years old, were those involved in the qualified homicide of journalist Mercedes Herrera in Caracas on September 30, a crime “perpetrated with treachery in the commission of aggravated robbery.” Both subjects were sentenced to 29 years and 11 months in prison.
The agency indicated that the couple murdered the victim in his home, located in Altamira, and later seized phones, shoes, a medal, clothing and dollars.
The prosecutor’s office reported to the media that the Scientific, Criminal and Criminalistic Investigations Corps began the investigations with which the responsibility of both in the murder was determined.
It should be remembered that October 8 was when detectives from the Cicpc Homicide Investigations Division managed to clarify the case of Mercedes Herrera, who was reported missing and later found dead in her own home in Caracas.
The scientific police were able to verify that Franyelin Ortiz, who worked as a domestic at Herrera’s residence, left the door of the residence open for Neiquel Gutiérrez to enter and both of them to carry out the robbery.
Only that the journalist recognized them and that is why they decided to kill her so as not to leave witnesses to the event.
After the discovery of the body on October 3, the detectives began the investigations and managed to determine that a day before Mercedes had contacted Ortiz and when questioned, she confessed to the fact.
