“Rebellion” and “intransigence”: Díaz-Canel’s formula to continue resisting

MÉRIDA, Mexico.- This Friday, December 20, at the inauguration of the “combatant” march that was called Miguel Diaz-Canel In front of the United States embassy in Havana, the president asked to continue resisting with “rebellion” and “intransigence.”

In a speech Full of the commonplaces that Díaz-Canel usually resorts to, he once again blamed the US embargo as the cause of the problems of the Cuban people.

In his speech, he described the “blockade” as “a blow to a nation that seeks to develop” and it is “opposed” by the Cubans who were involved in the march, for which they have mobilized hundreds of means of transportation despite the current crisis of fuel that crosses the country.

With the belligerent tone that he usually assumes when referring to the United States, he addressed the issue of the embargo as a “war” against the country and considered that the march “demonstrates” “how high the honor of the country continues to be.”

Without referring to the obligatory and the blackmail under which hundreds of workers were taken, Díaz-Canel stated that the march was successful and thereby attempted to contradict the estimates that the event would be a “failure,” as he said.

“How much they underestimate our revolutionary convictions,” he shouted.

In his speech he recalled that the regime has been open to having a dialogue with the US government, although he did not mention that they have always demanded to do so under their conditions and without giving in to the requests of the leaders.

“It is not an anti-American march. Against the American people we do not profess the slightest sense of hatred, towards the noble citizens of that country all our respect and the hand always extended to strengthen the ties of brotherhood between the two peoples. It is the same hand that we have extended to all US governments since the triumph of the revolution until today, always based on a serious, respectful relationship and on equal terms,” he stated.

“But if USA persists in its efforts to break our sovereignty and independence, our socialism, they will only find rebellion and intransigence. Every administration that has tried has survived the Cuban revolution and will continue to do so. “This will be a very anti-imperialist march, against North American imperialism and its attempt to impose itself in Cuba by force,” he concluded.

According to Díaz-Canel, the “March of the Combatant People” seeks to reaffirm popular support for the Government, in the midst of a scenario of economic and electro-energy crisis that worsens every day.

“Yes there is a blockade, yes the blockade has tightened, yes there is an economic war, yes they despise us and yes they intoxicate us with hatred on social networks… In response to this hostile policy, we call on the heroic Cuban people to a combative march,” he said the ruler.

In the emblematic place known as the Anti-imperialist Tribune, where followers of the regime have gathered in different events that seek to legitimize support for an increasingly discredited ruler, workers from the Havana Electric Company repair the lights in the surrounding areas. .

In the midst of a shortage of medical supplies and no fuel to generate electricity, the Government has invested in infrastructure to guarantee the attendance of as many Cubans as they have been able to oblige to the march.
