Carlos Villanes, head of Regional Prospecting and Exploration at Powerful Minerpointed out that the company’s next step would be to install a new mine in the La Libertad region, where they currently already have an operation in Pataz.
“We have projects near the mine that are not around the operation itself and that are entering an evaluation stage to see the feasibility of them becoming a mine in the short term. They are within the same La Libertad region and that would be the next step for Poderosa. Have an operation, although small, but you can have it,” he indicated in conversation with the Institute of Mining Engineers of Peru (IIMP),
He added that they also have projects in other regions of the country, but they are medium and long term. “This still has to mature and follow a series of phases to be able to reach an advanced project that is on the edge of feasibility. So that, as in any case, always takes about 10 to 15 years, 10 years minimum,” Villanes said.
Advances 2024
During the course of this year, they have carried out the second exploration campaign in the Huánuco, Pasco and Junín regions; and the first campaign in the Cusco and Puno regions, mainly in search of gold.
“The results are positive, but those results first have to do with a stage of knowledge. Later, the direct application part of the exploration will come to achieve, for example, identifying mineral resources or reserves, which is the economic part of the project. So, right now we are still in an initial phase,” he said.
2025 plans
Looking to next year, Villanes revealed that they will explore the Peruvian coast and also foreign territory.
Likewise, they will continue with the exploration program they have in different regions of the country, since it is part of Poderosa’s strategic planning and they are plans to execute for approximately 3 and 4 years.
“We are going to try to expand, suddenly, towards the coast as well, because we are mainly in the eastern part of the Andes, so we are going to leave that sector or expand our explorations. And, possibly, we will start some research projects outside of Peru as well, outside the national framework,” he said within the framework of the XXI Peruvian Congress of Geology.
