They recognize Cuba’s efforts in favor of world peace

The executive secretary of the World Peace Council (WPC), Iraklis Tsavdaridis, highlighted here today Cuba’s firm and tireless support for the efforts of that organization against militarization and war.

In statements to Prensa Latina, Tsavdaridis affirmed that this Caribbean nation remains in the forefront of the struggle for peaceful coexistence, and an expression of that commitment is the forthcoming holding in its territory of the VII International Seminar for Peace and for the Abolition of Bases. Coinciding with this appointment, to be held from May 4 to 6 in the eastern city of Guantánamo, the XXII World Assembly of the CMP will take place, preparatory to the global meeting scheduled for this year in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Regarding these meetings, also sponsored by the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), the Greek leader pointed out that they have a special symbolism for being held in a Cuban territory where the United States maintains a military base illegally, against the will of the people and government of the island.

He also stated that it will be a recognition of the successes of this Antillean nation in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, and its contributions to the world through the development of vaccines and health care to some 50 countries, despite the resurgence of the economic, financial and commercial blockade of the United States.

In this contact, the president of ICAP, Fernando González, reaffirmed Cuba’s commitment to peace and reiterated the island’s support for that organization, based in Athens, Greece, since 2000, in which organizations and movements participate. from more than 90 countries.
