The peddlers who operate on the 27 de Febrero Extension on the corner of Isabel Aguiar, in the section known as “Paint”they reported that the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) intends evict them without the intention of compensating or relocating them, which they consider a violation of the rights they have acquired in the area.
«They want to remove one and they don’t want to give him a single peso. “This is what it takes to find your own food,” said Ana Jiménez, who is dedicated to selling apples and sweets in the place.
For her part, another of the sellers, identified as Melania, He assured that no authority linked to the construction of the overpass has held a meeting with the peddlers to inform them what will happen to them.
«From what I understand, we are in the process of eviction, and no one here has held any meeting with the sellers. Nobody here has said where they will take the sellers. They have only said that this becomes a green area, but they have not said where they are going to put us, the peddlers,” he said.
The woman highlighted that numerous families depend on the businesses that operate in “Pintura”, which must cover expenses such as water, electricity and other basic services.
«They can’t come and evict us just like that. We are workers like any professional. We have a family to support, a house, water and electricity to pay, and life is more expensive every day. After this construction, this stop has gone down,” he said.
«I hope to God that they help us, because one lives from this. “They should make us a place so we can be well if they are going to remove us from here,” added another of the peddlers.
It should be noted that the alleged eviction is part of the uneven construction work being carried out in the area, with the aim of alleviating the frequent traffic jams that affect drivers traveling to the South region and Santo Domingo Oeste.
