“Prudent optimism”, on the arrival of Bayrou

French Prime Minister François Bayrou said yesterday Thursday in an interview with France 2 that he hopes to form a government “this weekend” or, at the latest, before Christmas.

Bayrou takes office as prime minister trying to leave behind a period of political instability, particularly since the summer, when Macron’s party lost a hundred seats in the assembly after deciding to bring forward the legislative elections by almost two years.

“He is a politician who has always had the will to reunify the French and overcome party divisions,” deputy Eléonore Caroit, who belongs to the Renaissance party (President Macron’s party), tells El Economista via WhatsApp.

Bayrou was appointed on December 13 and wants to quickly form a government to resume negotiations interrupted to approve a budget after the impeachment motion on December 5 that brought down his predecessor, Michel Barnier.

“I am cautiously optimistic about his ability to get France out of the political crisis we are in right now,” Caroit comments on Bayrou’s arrival, “if he manages to convince the different parties to support him or at least not censor him.” ”.
