The activist and university professor also emphasized that the electoral process of July 28, which should have served to open the way to the rescue of democracy and the re-institutionalization of the country, “was marred by an escalation of serious abuses, including arbitrary arrests and the unjust confinement of thousands of Venezuelans. “The authorities have the constitutional obligation to ensure the judicial guarantees of all citizens and respond to the claims and requests of the families who today are crying out for the freedom of their loved ones.”
