The battle
When reviewing what happened 59 years ago, the historian Robert Espinal remembered that the Colonel Francisco Alberto Caamano and the constitutionalists had moved to Santiago to attend a mass at the Nuestra Señora La Altagracia sanctuary parish, to commemorate the six months since the death of Colonel Rafael Tomás Fernández Domínguez in the assault on the National Palace.
After the religious ceremony, the constitutionalists moved to the Matum hotelwhere they were shot at by military contrary to those who promoted the revolution of April 1965.
